OPERATION JODARI is a campaign in partnership with the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania to combat illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing in the Western Indian Ocean.

Sea Shepherd partners with Tanzania to stop illegal fishing.


For years, illegal fishing vessels have operated with impunity off Tanzania's African coast. But now, thanks to a new coalition of marine conservationists and law enforcement, poachers and other illegal operators are being boarded, inspected, and arrested. Sea Shepherd has partnered with Tanzanian authorities for Operation Jodari, a campaign to patrol the country's territorial waters with agents from the Deep Sea Fisheries Agency, the Tanzanian Navy, and the Multi-Agency Task Team (MATT) stationed aboard Sea Shepherd's fast patrol vessel, the Ocean Warrior. These agents are authorized to board, inspect, and detain vessels in violation of Tanzanian law and have already made three arrests in the first 20 days of patrolling.

The MATT is led by the Tanzania Police Force and includes the Tanzania Forestry Service, the Wildlife Department, the Fisheries Department, the Tanzania Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Tanzania Intelligence and Security Service.
